What is International Women’s Day?
March 8th marks International Women’s Day, a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action for women’s equality. The date has occurred for over a century, with the first gathering occurring in 1911 by over a million people. Today, celebrations and groups gather all over the world to highlight the achievements of women and the work that still needs to be done.
This Year’s Theme - #EmbraceEquity
The aim of this year’s theme, #EmbraceEquity, is to get the world talking about Why equal opportunities aren't enough. Every individual starts from different a place, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action. While the words “equality” and “equity” are often used interchangeably, there are inherently different concepts. Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.
According to a report by the Kinsey Institute, about 85% of men stated that their partner had an orgasm at their most recent sexual event; this compares to the 64% of women who reported having had an orgasm at their most recent sexual event. I think we can all agree it is time to bridge the orgasm gap and take female pleasure into our own hands.
