Scams - How to Protect Yourself
September 15, 2021
Unfortunately, camming can attract a lot of con artists and scammers who will try to take advantage of you in a variety of ways.

If you have been in this business long enough, chances are you have been scammed or have known someone who has. This can come in the form of fake producers or studios contacting you for a job, or from a cam site member who doesn’t follow through with payment. There are warning signs to look out for so that you can avoid this in the future.

Firstly, if you are contacted by a producer or studio, do a thorough Google search of them. If they are legitimate, they should have full contact information, an address, and credentials. Look through LinkedIn and any other social media that they have posted to see if they are verified. You can message or tweet other performers who claim to work for said company or individual, to see if they are truly affiliated with them. Especially if the studio or producer asks for nudes immediately or an application fee, this is a massive red flag and should be instantly ignored.

Also, if they are making promises that sound too good to be true, chances they are. In this industry we know there are no guarantees, so chances are this is a scam. If the payout schedule is long, then it is best to be avoided. You should not have to be waiting months to receive payment, and chances are it will never come.

Thirdly, if there is no age verification process or model release form to sign, then do not continue with this transaction. Any legitimate company requires this information, so chances are if they are not asking if this is a scam or an illegal operation.

Lastly, do not accept PayPal as a form of payment. It is well known that PayPal is not adult-friendly and also your personal information can be released. In addition, you run the risk of your account being frozen and not having access to your funds.

In the end, always go with your gut. If it seems like a scam to you, then chances are it is. Also, reach out to other models on forums like Cammunity, Discord groups, or Reddit threads. In this industry, we all have each other’s backs and no one wants another cam model to get scammed!
